Martina Johnson-Allen is the recipient of two Guggenheim awards, and has had her work exhibited in many museums shows and galleries such as the Sande Webster Gallery in Philadelphia, the Paul Robeson Gallery at Penn State University, as well as in Dijbouti Africa as part of the U.S. Department of State’s Art in Embassies program.
Johnson-Allen was born August 4, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She received her B.A. at the Pennsylvania State University and her M.F.A. in Art Education and Printmaking at The University of the Arts, with additional training at Tyler School of Art at Temple University. Her work has been exhibited at the African American Art Museum and the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Philadelphia, and the Renwick and the National Museum of American Art in Washington, DC.
