My paintings develop through a process of layering paint and often other materials such as sand or gravel collected from the site of the painting. For the past several years, I have been exploring landscape as a way to access memory and as a way to more fully encounter the physical world. Some of the paintings are painted outside directly from the landscape, while others are painted from memory of a particular place. I know when my paintings are finished when they contain something both familiar and unfamiliar and their surfaces are resolved.
